Ten On Tuesday

1. Our vacuum hadn't been working properly for a while so one day well my mother-in-law was babysitting my father-in-law took it in to be looked at. The verdict: lots and lots of blonde hair caught in the belt. Still not sure if this was truly the problem but its what my husband keeps telling me so its the only verdict I have...

2. Mason's breakfast of choice...cereal IN milk WITH a spoon.

3. Mason's absolute FAVORITE word these days..mama. Everything and everyone is mama. Pretty sure I hear my name a thousand times a day!!!

4. Anyone else participate in the Royal Baby Watch? I will admit I was keeping tabs on the news waiting to hear. All I can say is Kate looked amazing for just a mere 24 hours later. As for the name...not a fan. George??? Hopefully he chooses to go by Alexander or even Louis...

5. Mason's activity of choice...wrestling with anyone...but daddy is a favorite!!!

6. Favorite room to play in...his bathroom...or more precisely IN his tub. With or without water...it doesn't matter.

7. On Friday night we got together with my friends (plus spouses and kids). It was so much fun. For whatever reason we haven't gotten together with husbands and kids in eons. Of course it rained so we just chilled inside and chatted well the littles played. Def need to have these hangouts more often!!!
The girls: Karie, Krista, Melissa, Me, Rach, and Gretchen
The guys + Tenley: Brian with Mason, Rudy with Levi, Chad with Tenley, Nick with Lawson (Travis' kid), Travis with Cohen, and Matt with Rhys and Jude.

One of my besties and I...
believe it or not we are due on the EXACT same day!!!

8. Brian and I got zoo passes this year so we decided after Brian got out of work this past Thursday to head to the zoo for an hour or so. (Our zoo is pretty small so it doesn't take too much time to hit the hot spots). And the best part is Mason enjoys himself more and more every time we go!!!
Mommy and Mason petting the goats.
The goat was pooping and Mason thought it quite hilarious.
Feeding the birdies. Liked it LOTS better this time around.
First time "petting" the stingrays. He wasn't too interested even though it looks as if he is here.
The lion was out!!!
Playing the drums and loving EVERY minute of it.

9. On Saturday Brian and Mason took me out for my (30th) birthday. Of course this particular weekend ended up being the coldest summer weekend in over 13 years. Hard to believe it barely touched the mid 60's. So adios went my plans of eating outside. Oh well....another year. We still headed out to Holland and ate at New Holland Brewery. Believe it or not we have never eaten there before...we've just stopped in a time or two so Brian could get a beer. Anyways we arrived BEFORE 4pm and were told it would (still) be a 40 minute wait. Krikitees... But we decided to wait. It only took 20 minutes to be seated and as I was looking over the menu I realized I didn't see a whole lot that sounded good to me. I am kinda a picky eater. Go figure what I ordered was none too delicious in my opinion so I ended up eating off from Brian's plate and nibbled on some of Mase's pizza. I still left full so all was good. Next on the agenda was heading out to the beach for a little bit. Of course the closer we got to the beach the more windy and cold it became. We (or should I say I) lasted all of 10 minutes. Lastly we stopped at Olive Garden to pick me up a piece of their raspberry cheesecake (sooooo YUMMY!!!). We were suppose to have a fire with some neighbors later that night but with the theme of the night it started sprinkling. So that too was bagged and instead I ate my cheesecake and drank my hot chocolate snuggled in bed with my two favorite boys. Still a great night despite all the shortcomings!!!

10. That darn shoe...take TWO!!! On Saturday (after the beach) Brian took Mason's shoes off (to shake out the sand) before putting him into the car. He then threw the shoes into the car. When we got home ONLY ONE SHOE COULD BE FOUND. What on earth?!? We looked all over the car and came up empty handed. We were both frustrated. Where could the other shoe have gone. That night I looked to see if I could get another pair (of Children's Place "crocs") online but they were completely sold out of his size. Brian found some name brand camo crocs (in his size) for $27 but I said absolutely not. There was no way I was paying $27 (plus tax and shipping) for shoes he was only going to wear for maybe another 6 weeks or so. I said he is just going to have to start wearing his other pair of (summer) sandals. Now you may be wondering why we love these shoes so much. First they are cheap. And second they stay on Mason's feet so well when he is walking. He has fat feet and the shoes are more narrow and they just work for him perfectly. Anyways on Sunday I called Brian from work and asked him what they (he and Mase) were up to. Much to my surprise...they were on their way to Holland in search of Mason's missing shoe. And wouldn't you know...they found it (again)!!! And now my boy is back to wearing his favorite shoes. Praying we can make it another 6 weeks without losing it.

Happy Happy Birthday To Me

Brrr...this July 29 was not like any other I remember. Typically I spend my birthday by a pool or at the beach but this year with temps only in the mid 60's...Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park it was!!! And what a blast we had...petting baby goats, holding baby bunnies and chicks, feeding birdies, a safari bus ride, lunch in the park, and playing in the sand and climbing on the animal statues. The kids left happy and tired!!!

Petting the goats...Cambrey, Mase, Cole, Brin (who was terrified), and Gma
Mason and the baby goats!!!
Cousins with suckers (checking out the giraffes)!!!
Trying to figure out a way to get into the bunny cage!!!
Feeding the birdies.
GET.THEM.AWAY!!!
"Uh oh"...is what he said when he dropped his (bird feed) stick. Silly boy!!!
Cambrey and Mase
My mom, Cole, Mason, Cambrey, Courtney, Brinley, and Me
He loves this girl!!!
So stinkin CUTE!!! Love this boy!!!
Mommy and Mase (HAPPY Birthday to ME)!!!

And then at night we headed out to watch daddy's softball team play in their end of the year tourney...of course only after eating a yummy dinner of smoked/grilled chicken wings and fresh green beans!!! And with that my birthday is over for another year. But here's to (finally) joining the same decade as my hubby!!!

The Journey To (Earthly) Baby #2: Week 17 and Appointment

July 25
How Far Along: 17 weeks!!!

Picture of Baby:

Weight Gain: 161.5 lbs...which means up a total of 16 pounds. For comparisons sake I was only up 8 lbs with Mase at this exact same point.

Picture of Baby IN the Belly:

Symptoms: As of 16 (maybe even late 15 weeks) I have been feeling way less tired...(yea!!!).

Movement: Late 14/early 15 weeks I started feeling baby move. And pretty consistently every day.

Had my 17 week appointment/cervical check (on Thursday). Appointment went really good...which I was SO thankful for!!! I was actually pretty nervous for this appointment because I hadn't felt the baby move for over 24 hours...which was abnormal. And to make matters worse my sitter was late (which only made me more nervous). Thankfully my neighbor watched him for 10 mins or so until my sitter arrived...and I made it to my appointment with two minutes to spare. I got called back right away and was immediately relieved to see baby's heartbeat just beating away (at 159 bpm). Cervix was way shorter around 30-32mm BUT still within the normal range and tightly closed. I asked Dr. J if I should limit lifting or anything and he said to carry on as normal because nothing about my cervix was abnormal. And reminded me that the cervix is like a sponge and it gets longer and shorter every day...it doesn't stay the same. Blood pressure was the best it's ever been (122/76) and again no protein in the urine. Next appointment is a week from this coming Monday.

Ten On Tuesday

1. A few weeks back I got a letter in the mail from the State of Michigan...letting me know that I had been randomly chosen to have my nursing license audited. Oh joy. Not. (With a nursing audit you have to mail in 25 CEUs...(Continuing Education Units)). So off to the post office I went to mail in my in my 25 CEUs. About two weeks later I got another letter in the mail from the State letting me know that only 18 of my 25 CEUs had been accepted and that I had 14 days from the date of the letter to send in 7 more credits or I would lose my license. Oh lovely. And it only got better...the date on the letter read July 9. The date I received the letter was July 13 (a Saturday). Post office isn't open on Sunday. I had to work Monday. So already a week in and no CEUs had been sent in. Anyways when I read the letter I started panicking as I ran downstairs praying I had at least 7 more CEUs. Thank goodness I am an overachiever and had 13 more CEUs...that were mailed in early Tuesday morning (the 16th).

2. My mother-in-law is so sweet. Brian and I have been talking about getting a cleaning lady for the next 6 months so I don't have to clean, vacuum, scrub, etc. (We had someone clean the house for 6 months when
I was pregnant with Mase). When my mother-in-law heard this she told me that she didn't want us to spend the money on a cleaning lady since she is more than able to clean on the days she comes over to watch Mase. She said she has three hours almost once a week to clean for us while Mase sleeps. Again so sweet...and a HUGE help!!!

3. We went to Millenium Park last week with all of Mason's cousins to hit up the sprinkler park. Let's just say Mason did not have the greatest time. He clung to me like glue for the first hour and a half before I could finally pry him off. Pretty confident when I say he is not a fan of sprinklers. Maybe next year!!!
Cambrey, Brinley, Cole, Addi, Kylynn, Easton, Mason, Grandma and Austin
Grandma with her baby boys.

4. Mason woke up from his nap this past Thursday burning HOT. Temp was 103.9. He was a sad baby Thursday night into Friday morning. We decided that Brian would stay home from work because go fig I had to work and I can't call in more than twice in a 4 month period. And even though our sitter was more than willing to come and still watch Mase it ended up being a good choice because Brian ended up taking him to Urgent Care Friday evening because he was having diarrhea, refused to eat or drink, and was still spiking high temps. Diagnosis = ulcers in his throat caused by a nasty virus going around. Thankfully he turned around pretty quickly. Was mostly back to his normal self by Sunday. However, we ALL lost a significant amount of sleep from Thursday night on. I believe he refused to go to bed Friday night UNTIL 3AM. And he still woke up at 7am. On Sunday (I had to work again) Brian said he took a 4.5 hour nap and then Sunday night Mase and I both slept for 11 hours. Awww sweet sweet healthy mama and baby sleep!!!

5. Kind of hard to believe that today I would have been 39 weeks pregnant with baby #5. And more than likely would have delivered either today or Thursday. But extremely grateful for the miracle that IS currently growing strong in my belly!!! After all s/he wouldn't be here if baby #5 still was.

6. My lil stinker buns knows how to get safety latches off cupboards as of this picture...

7. Mase thought this was a good place for his sippy...

8. Mason's new favorite hangout place. My tubs of maternity clothes. Oh and he had to get my Bible down to "read"...

9. Mase and I went blueberry picking with my mom yesterday morning. Mmmm nothing beats fresh Michigan blueberries. Can't wait to make me some blueberry crisp and some blueberry bread!!!

10. We cleaned out Mason's soon-to-be big boy room last week. And my father-in-law is coming to paint sometime in the next week or so and then its decorating time. Wish I had a before picture to show you of his future room because that room was filled to the brim (with mostly baby stuff which has now been moved downstairs until December-ish). The walls will be gray and I think I will accent with teal. And then I just want to pick up some animal type decor and buy a dresser (minus the mirror)...and put up the second crib that has been in storage since 2010. Thankful that we finally get to put it to use. So excited to see it come together.

The Journey To (Earthly) Baby #2: Week 16 and Appointment

July 16
I had my "16 week" appointment plus ultrasound this past Tuesday at 15 weeks and 5 days. And believe it or not I WENT BY MYSELF (again)!!! First EVER ultrasound by myself!!! Baby's heartbeat was 165 and s/he was measuring right on track according to my dates. No protein in the urine. And a decent blood pressure...(130/74). Couldn't have asked for a better appointment!!! Oh and my cervix was measuring around 3.8cm!!!

July 18
How Far Along: 16 weeks!!!

Picture of Baby:

Weight Gain: 160 lbs even...which means up a total of 14.5 pounds. They just keep adding up.

Picture of Baby IN the Belly:
(Belly is all you get since I haven't gotten ready in the last few days).

Symptoms: Lots of peeing, lots of eating, and lots of napping. And I am finally get past the stage where (in the middle of the night) I need to turn on the light to make sure I am not spotting. (Yea for me)!!! And I am starting to get past the stage where if I suddenly feel "wet" down there that I don't have to drop everything and run to the bathroom. Starting would be the key word!!!

Ten On Tuesday

1. One of my most favorite things about summer are (dark) SWEET CHERRIES. I bought 3 lbs worth last week and had them gone in three days...with only a little help from Mason. Yes I wrote that correctly...Mason. Believe it or not I found another fruit he likes. But he is only allowed cherries outside and with NO shirt since they stain so. And no I don't even have to take the pit out for him...he knows how!!!

2. Over the last week Mason has become quite the climber. He's no professional but if he wants up he will find a way up.  I must say I liked it better when he wasn't such a climber.

3. And he is quite the jumper these days too =) He's gets a teeny tiny bit of air. Love watching him grow and develop!!!

4. Cutest thing ever (to this mama)...if you ask Mason where baby is...he points to my belly. LOVE!!!

5. The other day I met a girlfriend and her daughter at a park. The kids were getting tired so we took it as our signal that it was time to head home. Mason has this thing lately of playing in the car. So I threw him in there well we were chatting just a bit more. When we said bye I lifted Mason from the drivers seat (even though he had started off in the backseat) and put him in his carseat. I put his window down to give him some quick air. (He was sweating since the car doors were all shut and the car wasn't running). We get home. Mase is of course sleeping...with no shoes on. No biggie he often takes his shoes off in the car. No biggie until I could only find ONE shoe. I searched the car TOP to BOTTOM twice. Finally I called Brian and told him the story and asked him to swing by the park on his way home. Thankfully a few hours later he walks in the house with his other shoe. Not sure how the shoe fell out. Thinking it was when I lifted him out of the drivers seat into his carseat. The only other option is he threw it out the window but it was found exactly where we had been parked so thinking the former.

6. This past weekend we went to The Grille House with some friends. Love this place. A bit expensive but oh so tasty. And its always fun to do something different every once in awhile. At this place you grill your own meat, mushrooms, and endless Texas toast. In addition you get endless house salad, baked potatoes, and baked beans. Believe me when I say we all left STUFFED!!! However, we did go to a frozen yogurt place later that night and somehow that squeezed in just fine!!!
Eric and Jenny, Laura and Steve, Brian and I

7. On Friday night (when I got home from work) I told Brian that I wanted to go to the (Holland) beach for a couple of hours on Saturday. So we did. Mase had a blast. (First trip to the beach this summer). We only lasted two hours but we had a fun two hours!!! And then we all came home and napped.

My boys!!!
Mommy and Mase
Having fun in the sand.

8. On Sunday morning I called my mom about two things. If they were taking the boat out that afternoon for my nephew's birthday party and to see if my dad was feeling any better. He had been having diarrhea for the previous 5 days. My mom said that the birthday party was going to have to be postponed because my dad had called his doctor that morning and he had told him to get to the ER. Insert panic. When its someone I love (parent, spouse, sibling, child) I worry that much more...as I'm sure we all do. Every since the girls I am a pessimistic person so I immediately go to worse case scenerio...cancer. And cancer runs rampant in my dad's family. Long story short...a few hours later after fluids and lots of lab work he was sent home with a diagnosis of viral gastroenteritis. He was feeling better yesterday and I pray this continues.

9. As for the birthday party...it happened Sunday evening instead. Which actually worked out better since my sis and her kids were back from their camping trip. (Her hubby had to work that night). We ate some yummy food, talked, opened presents, enjoyed some cake, went swimming, tubing, and boating. It was a good night with family!!!
Mase all ready for a boat ride
The sisters...Me, Kristi, Courtney, and Jana

10. And something I forgot to mention in Mason's 18 month post...he as of two weeks ago became bottle FREE. I just said to Brian one night NO more bottles. And that was it. As it was since 12 months he was only getting a bedtime bottle anyways...and some nights if we were gone he went to bed without one. So happy with how easy he adjusted. Def harder for mama than baby.

18 Months (2 Weeks Late)

On July 2 Mason had his 18 month appointment. His stats were as follows:

Height: 34" (95th%)
Weight: 27 lbs 6 oz (85th%)
Head Circ: 19" (90th%)

And then this past Thursday my sis-in-law (Kristi) took Mason's 18 month pictures. They turned out so cute!!! He LOVED the barn she took us to. He was such a busy lil explorer!!! Here are my faves (some have been edited others haven't)...
  • Mason is wearing some 18-24 months but mostly 24 months or 2T. And size 5 diapers (Kirkland brand).
  • Shortly after he turned 17 months we switched the second car seat to forward facing so for the last month and a half or so its been all forward sitting.
  • I would still consider Mason a pretty picky eater but he's getting better. He loves what he loves and (basically) refuses anything new. His absolute fave (food) these days...pickles.
  •  Mason is a champion sleeper. Wakes up around 7am in the morning (give or take a half hour), takes a 3 hour afternoon nap, and goes to bed anywhere between 7:45 and 9pm. (If we're out and about its later. If we're chilling at home its earlier). I have no complaints.
  • In the last week Mason's vocab has more than doubled. On his list now...mama, dada, hot, no, na-night, baby, tuck (stuck), boo boo, and numerous animal sounds. He definitely knows way more than he can say...which I think is pretty normal at this age.
My Ten On Tuesday will give some of his latest antics so skipping all the nitty gritty details and just hitting the basics.
