Ten On Tuesday

1. This is why I DON'T take Mase shopping...
2. Last week Mase made it out of the house a mere two times (from Sunday to Saturday). Once to church and the other time to the library. All was well (at the library) until a little boy told Mase he couldn't sit by him in the choo choo train. That was when Mase lost it. Picture him throwing things, yelling, and then add in Molly screaming. It was AWESOME!!! (Not). I was sooooo embarrassed and couldn't get out of the library quick enough.
Thankfully I (and Molly) however did manage to sneak out a few more times (Bible Study, a girl's night, and grocery store) than poor Mase last week. Thank heavens otherwise I would have gone stir crazy. (Although I must say...it IS nice staying in pajamas all day long).

3. I LOVE my Molly snuggles...
4. I took out Mason's old (baby) toys the other day and go figure the kid can't get enough of them. I mean its not like he just had a birthday and Christmas or anything...
I put the above pic on Facebook with the following saying "Our boy...a pantless, boot-lovin, bop-lovin, living in his glory days (by playing with his old toys) kinda kid!!!"

5. When you barely do anything all week long its hard to find things for a Ten On Tuesday post...but here's #5...
I LOVE daddy
She was telling me how she's going to wrap daddy around that little finger if hers!!!

6. My friend's little girl had a Contigo water bottle that Mason quickly became obsessed with. She was over quite a bit one week and Mase kept running away with it (pry in hopes that it would be "forgotten" about...out of sight, out of mind). I told Bri about it and a few days later this arrived in the mail via Amazon...
7. We "tried" painting last week. I say "tried" because Mase would either drink the water or dump it on the floor. Oh me. Oh my. I am not sure what to do what this boy of mine!!!
8. This never ending arctic winter blast is getting OLD. Between wind chills, snow drifts, ice and everything else it has been ONE crazy winter. So thankful I am on maternity leave so I don't have to drive into work ever!
9. My cuties patooties in their hootie hats...
10. Molly and I were gone (all day) one Saturday...(getting our shop on!!!)...so the boys did some snow playing. I was impressed that Brian got Mase out in the coooold because he is NOT a cold weather fan AT ALL.

{Molly} One Month

Stats: Molly's next doctor appointment (well child check-up) isn't until February 27 so best guess is she's in the upper 9 pound range. (She was 9 pounds even at 2 weeks). And maybe 20.25 inches. (She was 20 inches at 2 weeks).
Sizes: I packed away Molly's newborn clothes (well the few items I had) just after she hit 2 weeks (maybe a little premature but I was ready to switch things up). She is now wearing 0-3 or 3 month clothing. The 3 month clothing is a bit big but I prefer bigger over too tight. She is still in size 1 Huggies diapers. Although I think she might have a sensitivity to them because her bottom always seems a touch red. I will be buying Pampers for the next go around.
Food: Molly was introduced to the bottle for the first time on January 19 (at 3 weeks and 3 days). A whole 10 days later than when her big bro was introduced. She took the (3oz) bottle just fine (actually she wanted more) so I'm in no rush to make this a nightly thing. She still eats on demand. Every 2-4 hours during the day. Every 4-5 hours at night!!! I pump 0-2 times a day. And for only 3-5 minutes (if I do pump). Just not a pumping fan...would rather put her straight on the boob.
Routine: No set routine but for the most part Molly gets her (and I's) day started around 7:30am. Eats every 2-4 hours. Naps here and there. But I do always seem to get a good stretch from 12-4ish...which is AWESOME because that's when Mase naps!!! She typically has 2 really alert stretches every day (meaning awake for at least 2 consecutive hours). And she goes to bed anywhere from 8:30-10:30pm...just depends on when she last ate and how much of a fight she puts up. We do tummy and/or play mat time twice a day. And she gets a bath every other day.
Developmental Milestones: Getting better and better neck control.
Loves: Molly loves her momma (tummy to tummy time and my voice especially)!!! Loves to eat!!! Starting to love her paci!!! Loves her rock and play sleeper!!! Loves headbands (or maybe just her momma does)!!!
Dislikes: Still not a huge burping fan but has improved over the last 2 weeks. Sometimes she likes being swaddled and sometimes she doesn't. I prefer her hands swaddled in...she however prefers them out.
No more sponge baths as of January 3. And she rarely cries with the REAL thing!!!

Other Things I Don't Want To Forget:
  • You "participated" in your first play dates.
  • Your baby acne wasn't terrible but you did (still do) have some.
  • You went to church for the first time.
  • You don't mind your swing...although you aren't in it a whole lot because it's downstairs. (Your brother on the other hand hated it).
  • Thank goodness for Aden and Anais swaddles and the Ergobaby carrier. You sleep great at night thanks to the swaddles and if mom needs both hands the Ergo carrier has been a life-saver. More often than not you fall fast asleep!!!
  • You typically get mad when you're first placed in your car seat but once the car is in motion you again fall fast asleep.
  • And on the sleep note...you are a LOUD sleeper.
  • Just after you hit 2 weeks you had two episodes (on the same Sunday) where your poop came out in bubbles. Literally..bubbles. I called your PCP the following morning and they said it was gas build-up. I started giving you gas drops more often after that but thank goodness you also started burping a little better too.
  • You are a very gassy little girl. As in a serious tooting machine!!!

God, can I ask You a question?

My aunt had this on her Facebook page the other day and it really hit home...

Me: God, can I ask You a question?

God: Sure

Me: Promise You won't get mad

God: I promise

Me: Why did You let so much stuff happen to me today?

God: What do u mean?

Me: Well, I woke up late

God: Yes

Me: My car took forever to start

God: Okay

Me: at lunch they made my sandwich wrong & I had to wait

God: Hmmmm

Me: On the way home, my phone went DEAD, just as I picked up a call

God: All right

Me: And on top of it all off, when I got home ~I just want to soak my feet in my new foot massager & relax. BUT it wouldn't work!!! Nothing went right today! Why did You do that?

God: Let me see, the death angel was at your bed this morning & I had to send one of My Angels to battle him for your life. I let you sleep through that

Me (humbled): OH

GOD: I didn't let your car start because there was a drunk driver on your route that would have hit you if you were on the road.

Me: (ashamed)

God: The first person who made your sandwich today was sick & I didn't want you to catch what they have, I knew you couldn't afford to miss work.

Me (embarrassed):Okay

God: Your phone went dead because the person that was calling was going to give false witness about what you said on that call, I didn't even let you talk to them so you would be covered.

Me (softly): I see God

God: Oh and that foot massager, it had a shortage that was going to throw out all of the power in your house tonight. I didn't think you wanted to be in the dark.

Me: I'm Sorry God

God: Don't be sorry, just learn to Trust Me.... in All things , the Good & the bad.

Me: I will trust You.

God: And don't doubt that My plan for your day is Always Better than your plan.

Me: I won't God. And let me just tell you God, Thank You for Everything today.

God: You're welcome child. It was just another day being your God and I Love looking after My Children...

Life doesn't always turn out the way we want it to...but it (life) turns out JUST THE WAY GOD HAS PLANNED. And in the end that planned life is absolutely perfect!!! (Case in point below)!!!
Three and a half years ago I NEVER could have imagined how happy I would be today. Because three and a half years ago I was sad. I was angry. And I had lots of questions (not just a question). My plan was (obviously) remarkably different than Gods but God knew what He was doing so He continued on with His plan.
He for awhile "ignored" my wants and my desires...until the time was right. If God had changed course and given into my pleas...these two precious gifts would not be here.  But tonight I get to kiss these two perfect miracles good-night and tomorrow wake up (once again) to my very blessed life!!! So I will trust God in ALL things...in ALL circumstances...in the good (life) and in the bad (death) because His plan is always better than ours.

Mason, Tantrums, and Sleep...Oh My!!!

So my little dude HAD been throwing tantrums like it was his job. I had various reasons for why I thought he was throwing these constant tantrums (over EVERY LITTLE THING). He's two. He's adjusting to his new sister (although these tantrums started a month or so before Molly was born). He hasn't been feeling well (since January 1). Teething? Or simply because he's stuck inside all.the.time.

Well I reached my limit this past Friday. Mason was T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E. Crying. Whining. Wanted me and only me. He wasn't feeling well. And he was tired. I was almost in tears I was so exhausted (by him). We (he, Molly, and I) were at my mom's. She was baby-sitting five of my nieces/nephews. I thought he would enjoy himself there (playing with cousins) and as an added bonus I would get a "lil break." Not the case. He was hot and cold. All happy one minute and crying and hitting the next...saying "home home."

I called Brian when I got home and said enough was enough. I didn't care what it took...Mason WAS going to start sleeping in his OWN bed and he WAS going to start going to bed ON TIME!!! Night 1 (Friday night) went way better than I expected. Mase only cried for 30 minutes before falling asleep, only called out twice (11pm and 2am...I ignored him both times), and only came into our room once (5am...he was quickly put back in his own bed). Thankfully they coincided for the most part with Molly's wake-up calls!!! Night 2 went even better...he only called out once (again this call out was ignored). And wouldn't you know by night 3 the kid slept the entire live long night!!!!!!!!!!!!  And ever since he's been doing great. Goes to bed at 8:30pm with NO fight (after a book and his prayers). He sleeps until 7:30-ish (give or take)...and STILL takes a 3-3.5 hour nap. Life is GOOD!!! Oh and on the plus side his tantrums have majorly subsided.
Just reading a little Jesus' Calling...

Ten On Tuesday

1. I read the book Heaven is For Real just after my first miscarriage. It's actually the reason I felt so passionate about naming our first son. I wanted that child...my son...to have a name in Heaven. And he does...Luke. When I saw (via Facebook) that the book was being made into a movie I was (for lack of a better word) excited. I watched the trailer with tears in my eyes. And however difficult it might be to watch the movie (because I'm SURE the tears will be flowing) I cannot wait to see it come Easter 2014.

2. I went to Rite Aid for my two week (plus a day) blood pressure check a week and a half ago. Unfortunately the blood pressure was still elevated (140/82) which means I am still taking Labetalol twice a day. Hoping that come my 6 week post partum check I will be able to kick it to the curb. That's when I kicked it after Mason's pregnancy...so praying that this time follows suite!!!

3. Miss Molly attended her first baby shower with me at 2 weeks and 5 days. Isn't she a doll!!! I just love all the girl accessories...headbands, skinny jeans, booties. Brian better keep one hand on his wallet. ;)

4. My 94 year old (as of January 18) grandfather got to meet my precious baby girl this past Sunday. (His 18th great grandchild). Even at 94 years of age he still finds the good in life. And that good is meeting his great grandchildren. He hopes to be around for great grandbabies 19 and 20 (due this April and June)!!!
Molly and Old Papa
4 Generations

5. Maternity leave means lots of cousin play. Because when I am on maternity leave I spend lots of time at my mom's house and she is always baby-sitting a grandchild or two or three (or more)!!!
Kylynn, Mase, and Brinley
The girl cousins (minus my niece Cambrey)

6. Buy Buy Baby adventure #1. A few weeks back the whole family went to Buy Buy Baby. I needed to buy a baby shower gift and there were a few things I wanted to check out for myself. Mason (per his norm) refused to sit in a cart. This is what he did instead...
Isn't it great they have carts for littles to push!!!

We left with bops for each kid, a formula container, aden and anais swaddles, and a baby shower gift. Plus I checked out the Ergobaby carrier and a bunch of other things. A successful trip. Not the case with Buy Buy Baby Adventure #2.

7. Let me say before I get into adventure #2 that the closest Buy Buy Baby (BBB) OR Babies R Us is a good 30 minutes from our house. So go figure we went to BBB on a Friday night and the following afternoon (in the mail) we received a gift card from one of Brian's Aunts to BBB. Most of you know that its not that convenient to troop to the other side of town with two little kids in these cold temps...but the gift card plus a 20% coupon made it worth a second trip out to BBB to buy the Ergobaby carrier...so that's just what we tried to do the following Friday night (as in this past Friday). So you better believe the hubby wasn't too happy when I said..."oh crap" upon arrival to BBB. Yep...left the gift card AT HOME. Saweeeet. So yes a third trip to BBB happened the following afternoon...this time with just Molly (and my mom).

8. Mason super randomly spiked a temp last week Monday after his afternoon nap. (Go figure I had some friends and their daughters over earlier in the morning). Went all the way up to 103.7. Cranky as all get out. But after 36 hours we were left with just his usual cough and cold. (You know the cough and cold he's had since January 1...UGH).

9. Mason is OBSESSED with tubby time and bubbles. He would stay in the tubby all day long if we let him. A few days a week he manages to get in twice a day. Lately his tubbys last anywhere from 30-60 minutes. And after the water is drained he refuses to get out (until he starts shaking). And don't even get me started on his love of bubbles...whether its his bubble bath or his bubble gun...

10. Mason sporting his new NY Yankee's hat compliments of daddy's friend Brent...

Ten On Tuesday

1. Last week after FOUR straight days of not leaving the house (due to the terribly cold arctic weather we had) we finally got out on day 5. Were did we go? To the mall of course!!! I had a couple of returns and Mase got some mall playing in. (Thankfully grandma joined us for the adventure)!!!

2. Last week Sunday (not two days ago Sunday but 9 days ago Sunday) Brian went to church while I stayed home with the kiddos. (Since Mase had a cold he couldn't do nursery). I was busy putting laundry away when I realized things were too quiet in the house. I went to check on Mase...and when I saw what he had been up to...I LOST it. The pictures don't do it justice but he had spit his red flavored water EVERYWHERE in Molly's room.

*(Pictures were taken after the cleaner was applied. Let's be serious my carpet is more important than pictures).*
He spit it down the door and onto the carpet...
On the ottoman...
On the rocking chair...
And random spots on the carpet...
Plus on the window sill and on himself as well. Needless to say I was furious. He got two spanks and 20 minutes of time-out. (The kid hasn't been in time-out longer than 2 minutes yet). Oh and NO more flavored (colored) water unless he is locked in his high chair. Thankfully it all came out after some major scrubbing (20 minutes of scrubbing...hence the 20 minutes of time-out).

3. Go figure Brian had a cold when Molly was born. And of course Mason had to pick up Brian's bad cold. So with Molly just days old...Mason's nose was like a running faucet and he was coughing so hard he was barely sleeping. (A newborn plus a hacking no sleeping toddler...oye me)!!! We called the doctor who ordered QVAR (in addition to his Singular and Claritan and his PRN Albuterol) and just like that his coughing disappeared (well mostly). And thankfully we were stocked with boogie wipes to keep his skin from chapping too much...that and a little Vaseline.
The wipes soon had to be out of Mase's reach because he loved wiping his own nose with them but of course only one swipe per wipe...

4. My first adventure out with two kiddos was to Playworld on January 3. Its been a tradition for the last 3 years that my mom takes all the grandkids there over Christmas break. Mase had a blast with his cousins (despite the cold that made him slightly moody) and Molly was a perfect little angel.

Waiting for his cousins to get the party started.

Up Up Up they go...

Brinley with "her" baby!!!

Mase and Cole

The gang (minus me)...5 adults and 9 kids!!!

5. On Friday I took both kids to the doctor. Mase for his 2 year well child and Molly for her 2 week well child. My mom ended up going with me which ended up being a good thing...because Mason FREAKED out when the nurses started messing with him. Boy...oh boy!!! I def needed that second pair of hands. But go figure when the doctor checked him over he was super relaxed. (He must associate nurses with shots...of which he didn't need any at this appointment...thank goodness). But I walked out with TWO healthy reports (which made me oh so H-A-P-P-Y)!!! All we need to do is schedule a US to follow-up on Mason's hydronephrosis. As of last year's ultrasound it was completely cleared up on the left side but still a grade 2 on the right side. Hoping for a completely cleared up report this year!!!

6. I cleaned half of the main level (of my house) one day last week during my 4 days of being "snowed in." Crazy that I use to be able to clean my whole house in 3-4 hours. Now it took me ALL day to clean just half of the upstairs...and then a certain little boy was right behind me dirtying it all up again. But fingerprints make it all the more inviting...wouldn't ya say!!!

7. On Saturday Brian put Mason down for a nap. After 20 minutes I went to check on him (because he was making a lot of noise). Of course he was busy playing. I told him it was nap time and that he needed to be quiet. A little bit later I was searching for my phone. I thought I heard it vibrating in Mason's room so I peaked my head in. And am I ever glad I did. Guess what I found (and smelled). Poop. And lots of it. On Mason's hands, feet, face, clothes, bed sheets, blankets, and on a toy or two. Go figure Molly started crying because she was hungry RIGHT AT THE SAME TIME of my discovery. So I yelled for the hubby...passed the baby off...and went to work. So gross. Oh and Mase told me he pooped as I walked in.

The next day we had some friends over (see #8) and I hadn't heard Mase for awhile. I asked Brian if Mase had gone back downstairs and he said that Mase wasn't down there. So I went to peak in his room and sure enough...there he was hanging out on his bed. I asked what he was doing and he said..."poop." I checked and sure enough the boy had pooped. I said thank you for telling mama. But when I laid him down on the changing table I noticed poop on his hands and under his fingernails. Seriously...seriously...

8. One of my college girlfriends was in town this past weekend (visiting her hubby's extended family) so a Sunday morning play date was A MUST before she, her hubby, and kiddos had to head back home to Chicago. It was my first time meeting her sweet little girl Jane who was born 8 weeks before Molly. As always it was a blast catching up...even if only for a few hours!!!
Karie and Tenley (15 mo), Amy, Will (2 yr), and Jane (2 mo), AND Me, Molly (2 wk), and Mase (2 yr).
Jane and Molly!!!

9. If Molly's on her mat...then big brother is too...

10. Introducing my new breast bump...the only thing Obamacare will ever (most likely) do for me...(sorry if you are a fan).
The pump I used with Mase broke after my first use with Molly. (Thankfully a friend had told me about the free Obamacare breast pumps that you can get through your insurance). So you better believe I called my doctor the next day and asked him to fax a script to Carelinc ASAP in order for me to get a free pump. They were on back order but came in the end of last week and I am now loving my new pump.
