{Asher & Jax} Five Month

Stats: The boys next appointment (well child check-up) isn't until January 18, 2018. Guessing that Asher weighs in the upper 16lb range. And Jax is pry in the upper 15lb range.
Sizes: The boys are wearing 6-12 and 9 month clothing and size 3 {Kirkland} diapers. Just switched out their closet a week ago and diapers maybe two weeks ago.
Food: Started weaning about 3 weeks ago and was officially done a few days ago. {Tear}. This was definitely bittersweet but needed to happen. It was getting stressful breastfeeding two, worrying if they were eating enough, working & pumping, and taking care of a house & 3 other children as well. Started feeding them baby cereal (oatmeal) a week and a half ago. They are not big fans. Plan on starting veggies as soon as we go to the grocery store next. They get five 6.5oz bottles/day of Similac Advanced.
Routine: They've been waking around 6:30am these days. (Miss the extra 30-45 minutes when they slept a bit later). Still eat every 3-4 hours during the day. They are ready for their first nap two hours after waking. If we're staying home (which OFTEN we are) this is their longer nap...3ish hours. If this nap is shorter then their afternoon nap is the longer nap. And they often need a third cat nap (20-30min in the evening). And they typically go down between 8 and 8:30pm and with the exception of a rough week and a half of NOT sleeping through the night they sleep ALL NIGHT LONG.
Asher above and Jax below
Developmental Milestones: Same as last month but with the edition of we have some occasional rollers. Being babes #4 and #5 I honestly don't remember exact dates but Jax has been rolling stomach to back since just after 4 months. He rolled back to stomach the end of November (maybe the 30th??). Asher isn't as "into" rolling. He's done stomach to back once and that happened TODAY. Otherwise still good head control. Smile a LOT. Have the most precious lil giggles and Jax loves to hear himself talk (and he's really LOUD about it). Oh and they (especially Asher) can hold their own bottles quite well.
Loves: The boys love love love their momma and they love my voice!!! Love their big brothers and big sister (most of the time anyways). Love them some bottles!!! Love to suck on their fists or suck on anything for that matter. Love to be talked to!!! Love spending time on their play mat. Love their blankies. And Jax loves to grab at things.
Other Things I Don't Want To Forget:
  • You celebrated your first Thanksgiving.
  • You spend a lot of time at home. It's just easier leaving you sweet boys at home with a grandma.
  • About 2 weeks ago Jax had a four night stretch of NOT sleeping through the night. It was terrible. Then we had a couple of good nights before BOTH of you spent a good portion of two nights screaming. It was a VERY long two nights.
  • You still both LOVE your baby music soothers in your cribs.
  • You both LOVE LOVE LOVE your B's (blankies). Yea!!
  • Asher is still a major drooler (front of your shirts are always wet) and still tends to spit more than Jax.
  • Jax you are a wiggler and people comment on this when they are hanging onto you. (Big brother Mase was a wiggler too).
  • Asher's yeast issue has much improved and his eczema is at a minimum. (What I thought was yeast behind his knees was actually eczema).
  • You guys are always cutting yourself with your paper thin nails (that I DO cut regularly).
  • Asher's helmet eval is December 18. Pretty sure the helmet will be happening.
With your PT Mr. Micah
  • You can tell you are babies 4 and 5. Month #3 of getting this post up late. At least this month I was only a day late!
  • And I don't do things nearly as quickly for you guys like I have done for the others. Everyone had more one on one time but life is so crazy that you guys don't get "worked with" as much. Been in the jumperoo maybe once twice at most. No sippys yet. No baby food besides oatmeal. And I'm sure there is more that I am not mentioning. Just know that you are SO SO loved!!

{Asher & Jax} Four Month

Stats: The boys next appointment (well child check-up) isn't until next week Thursday so best guess is that Asher weighs in the mid 16lb range. And Jax is pry in the mid to high 14lb range. (*Update 11/16/17-Asher weighed in at 16lb 2 oz (80th%) and 25 inches long (50-75th%). Head circumference was 16.5 inches (50th%). Jax weighed in at 14lb 15oz (50th%) and 25 inches long (50-75th%). Head circumference was 16.75 inches (60th%). Healthy growing boys)!!
Sizes: The boys are wearing 3-6 and 6 month clothing and size 2 {Kirkland} diapers. Once I run out of size 2 though...they'll be moving up a size.
Food: Constant changes. Constant changes. I was about ready to call it quits in the breast feeding department (at the 3 month mark) because after breasting feeding them they still both always seemed hungry. It was becoming too much work to breast feed and supplement (both of them) every feed. Then I came up with a brilliant (why didn't I think of this earlier) idea. Breast feed one and give the other a (formula) bottle and switch for the next feed. Its been working great for a month now but I can tell my supply just continues to go down. Still hoping to make it to my 6 month goal but we'll see. So anyways the boys get boob, booby milk, or (Enfamil) formula. *Formula will change based off my free samples. They get 6oz if I give a bottle. They eat every 3-4 hours...or typically 5 feeds a day. I pump only if necessary (like if I am going to be gone from the boys), the mornings I work, and of course while I am at work.
Routine: They typically wake between 7:15 and 7:45. Eat every 3-4 hours during the day. Eat naughta at night. Starting to be a bit more consistent with naps. And they typically are ready to go down between 8 and 9pm. (LOVE how they have set these patterns themselves). They breast feed/get a bottle one last time between 8 and 8:30pm and then sleep ALL NIGHT LONG. Again thank you boys for this little large slice of Heaven!!
Developmental Milestones: Good head control. Smile a LOT. And have the most precious lil giggles and love to "talk."
Loves: The boys love love love their momma!!! Love their big brothers and big sister. Love to eat!!! Love to suck on their fists (more Asher). Love to be talked to!!! Love spending time on their play mat. Love watching Baby Genius movies. Jax loves his paci while Asher loves his "B" (blankie). And they love being held.
Dislikes: Asher doesn't care for his paci too much.
3 month pictures...my littlest loves!!

Other Things I Don't Want To Forget:
  • You visited your {biggest} sisters for the first time.
  • You are AMAZING sleepers...still sleeping though the night!!
  • You still both don't mind sleeping in your car seats.
  • You both LOVE your baby music soothers in your cribs.
  • You are both great burpers. (The other three were so-so at burping. So this is noteworthy)!!
  • You both discovered your voices recently and you both (maybe more so Jax) LOVE to hear yourself talk.
  • Asher is a major drooler and also spits up more than Jaxy does.
  • Asher's cradle cap comes and goes (but it's very minor)!!
  • Asher has a little bit of eczema. (Again very minor). Nothing a little Cetaphil Restoraderm lotion or HC cream can't cure.
  • Asher also has a little yeast issue. It's been a constant battle since birth. Yeast comes and goes under his knees, armpits, and his neck. Constantly applying corn starch to dry it out and Nystatin to hopefully eventually cure it.
  • Asher has two more PT appointments and then we move on to his helmet eval. Pretty sure the helmet is going to be happening tho. Boo. He has one of the flattest (back of) heads I've ever seen.
  • Jax you are the nosiest baby when eating. Always needing to check out every itty bitty noise (and pop yourself off the boob/bottle in the process). Asher on the other hand once he latches...he ain't unlatching.
  • Celebrated your "first" Holiday (not counting Labor Day)...Halloween!!
  • You guys were baptized on October 8 at Ridgewood CRC by Pastor Len Kuyvenhoven.
  • You can tell you are babies 4 and 5. Month #2 of getting this post up late. But once again I dated it back to the 7th. Shhh don't tell.

{Asher & Jax} Three Months

Stats: The boys next appointment (well child check-up) isn't until mid November so best guess is that they are each up at least a pound. So Asher maybe weighs in the mid to upper 13lb range. And Jax is pry in the mid 12lb range.

Sizes: The boys just recently switched to 3-6 and 6 month clothing. Jax could have lasted much longer in the 3 month size but I want the boys (for now anyways) to wear the same size (due to all my matching and coordinating outfits). They are now in size 2 Kirkland diapers.
Food: The 9:30/10pm pumped bottle lasted all of 2 nights. Daddy kept falling asleep before the bottles so then it was just easier for me to simply breastfeed. Around 2 and a half months I started supplementing with a lot more formula (currently enfamil newborn). I didn't think they were getting enough off the boob. They seem way more content since I started supplementing. On September 22 I gave them 2oz of formula after their last (breast)feeding of the night (because they didn't seem to be content off just the boob) AND Asher slept all night long and Jax until 5:45. So you better believe they have been getting that 2oz every night since. I still breast feed the majority of their feeds (every 3-4 hours during the day which equals about 4-5 times throughout the day) and then one feed is typically 5oz of formula and of course always the 2oz of formula at night. I pump pretty much only while at work, in the morning if I'm too full from the night, or if I'm going to be gone from them and they'll need a bottle while I'm gone. While at work they get 5oz bottles of either breastmilk, formula, or a mix of the two.
Routine: They typically wake between 7 and 7:30 but occasionally as early as 6:30. Eat every 3-4 hours during the day. Starting to be a bit more consistent with naps (a morning, an afternoon, and an evening). Most of the time I get them down together but not always. They typically are ready to go down between 8 and 9pm. (LOVE how they have set these patterns themselves). They breast feed one last time between 8 and 8:30pm, get a 2oz formula bottle to follow, and then sleep ALL NIGHT LONG. (Well maybe once or twice a week one of them will wake for a paci pop in). Thank you boys for this little slice of Heaven!!
Developmental Milestones: Pretty decent head control. Smile a LOT (especially Jax). Also have the most precious lil giggles and love to "talk."
Loves: The boys love their momma!!! Love to eat!!! Love to suck on their fists. Love to be talked to!!! Love spending time on their play mat. Love watching Baby Genius movies. And they love being held.
Dislikes: No dislikes that I can really think of for either. You wouldn't even know that Jax was sitting in poop if you didn't smell it cause he's as content as can be sitting in pee and poo.
(Although this is a picture of Asher-all tuckered out from play time).

Other Things I Don't Want To Forget:
  • On September 22 you boys started sleeping through the night pretty consistently!! For the first week one of you would still occasionally wake in the 5 'o clock hour but now you generally both make it til 7/7:30am. Mommy is LOVING this!!
  • So thankful God gave me such easy babies. Not sure how else I would be able to handle 5 kids 5 years old and younger.
  • Asher is still the fussier of the two (but has chilled lots over this last month) but really truly you are both easy babies.
  • Asher's cradle cap is NO more!!
  • Started PT this month for Asher's torticollis. Fingers crossed it prevents us from needing to do the helmet. Asher is not a huge fan of PT but at least his physical therapist Micah is super nice.
  • Asher still has his three birthmarks on his face and one on his lower back.
  • You both LOVE sleeping in your car seats. So thankful all 5 of my kids have had a love relationship with their car seats.
  • Jax you are quite the stretcher. Always trying to get to your side.
  • You guys went on your first all day shopping trip with Mommy and Grandma to Michigan City just after turning 2 months.
  • You guys went to your first baby shower for one of Mom's cousins.
  • You guys met a bunch of (great) Uncles and Aunts this month...mostly from Dad's side.
  • You enjoyed your first trip to Post Family Farms. An yearly tradition with the neighbors.
  • You "watched" your first Michigan vs Michigan State game. Unfortunately Michigan lost. Maybe basketball will go better. Fingers crossed.
  • You participated in your second photo shoot (first being your newborn shoot) with all your cousins and Grandpa & Grandma.
  • Mommy went back to work on October 4. So thankful to go back to a job I love and know that you guys are in the best hands possible (if not in mine) with your grandmas (or daddy on the weekends). And that I am not gone 13.5 hours. Only a mere 10 hours.
  • You can tell you are babies 4 and 5. Got this post up a week late. {Sigh}. But I dated it back to the 7th. Shhh don't tell.

{Asher & Jax} Two Months

Stats: The boys next appointment (well child check-up) is next week Wednesday (September 13th) so best guess is Asher weighs in the mid to upper 12lb range.  And Jax is pry in the lower 11lb range. I'll update here after the appointment with weights/heights/stats.

*Update...Asher weighed in at 12lb 9oz (75th%) and measured 22 and 3/4 inches long (50th%). His head circumference was 15 and 1/4 inches (25-50th%). Jax weighed in at 11lb 7oz (50th) and measured 22 and 1/4 inches long (25-50th%). His head circ was 15 and 1/2 inches (25-50th%).
Sizes: The boys are still wearing 0-3 or 3 month clothing. Asher will definitely be ready to move up a size before Jax but thinking I'll just keep them in the same size at least as long as I can. (Better to be a touch big on Jax than too small for Asher. And I prefer they stay in the same size for matching/coordinating purposes. They are still in size 1 Kirkland diapers but once the size 1's run out its on to size 2.
Food: The boys have each received a few more bottles. I first started giving 4-4.5oz bottles but now its 4.5-5oz bottles. They still eat on demand. Typically every 2-4 hours during the day. And every 3-4 hours at night. I rarely pumped this last month (just don't have enough time in the day to do it). But two nights ago I started pumping to give them a 9:30/10pm bottle. Would have even larger spans of sleep at night if I only had Jax. Rarely does Jax wake at night before Asher. And same as last month when one twin wakes/is ready to eat I wake/make the other one eat too.
Routine: No set routine. No typical wake up time. Eat every 2-4 hours. Still napping randomly, Sometimes together and sometimes not. I try to get them to bed between 9:30 and 11pm (although I will be bumping up this time during this next month). Two nights ago I started giving a 4.5-5oz bottle around 9:30/10pm. I pump right before and will supplement with formula to make sure they each get 4.5-5oz. The first night I had a 4.5oz bottle already ready to go and I pumped another 4.5oz so no formula was needed. Last night I pumped 10oz so once again I was all set. I have a mix of free formula samples in the cupboard so they'll get whatever I pulled out. During the night their sleep has been very different each night...no pattern what so ever. And like I already said no set wake up time.
Developmental Milestones: Asher has phenomenal head control and Jax isn't too far behind. Both boys started smiling more this month.
Loves: The boys love their momma!!! Love to eat!!! (Jax) loves his bop more so than Asher!!! And they love being held.
Dislikes: Sitting in a poopy diaper.
Other Things I Don't Want To Forget:
  • The boys have slept a {very} few 5-6 hour stretches at night. The longest stretch I've been getting lately is a 4 hour stretch.
  • Asher is definitely the more fussy babe. For a few weeks it felt like if he wan't sleeping he was fussing. Where as Jax is content just chilling awake. But in the last couple of days he (Asher) has been more chill.
  • Jax is an ANGEL baby. By far my BEST baby. So incredibly relaxed and chilled. I think he just makes Asher look bad (or Asher makes him look good). I really feel like Asher's temperament is similar to the three Bigs at the same age but obviously with two of them I compare then to each other...and hence Jax gets good baby status and Asher gets fussy baby status.
  • Both boys hand out smiles but Jax hands them out MUCH quicker.
  • Asher is a gassy baby (cause of his fussiness)? Swaddle him up and he tends to calm quicker.
  • First night in their crib was Sept 5. They slept the same as the previous night in their rock n plays. Second night Jax woke (after a freakin 5oz bottle) after a mere 3 hours. Popped in his paci and he fell back to sleep. Fifteen minutes later heard more fussy...this time it was Asher. Popped his paci in. We played this rotating game for an hour and 15 minutes until I finally gave in and fed them at 2:20am. But then they slept until 7:05 (Jax) and 7:30am (Asher). I'll be super honest I am not afraid to let them fuss at night if they are not (in my opinion) due to eat or fuss in the early morning when they were just fed and its not awake time yet. I feel like they should be able to make a 4.5-5 hour stretch at this point.
  • Its funny when looking back at the other kids 2 month posts I read that I cut Mason's nails for the first time at 8.5 weeks. The twins have had their nails cut 4-5 times already.
  • Asher has bad {really bad} cradle cap so I jumped right to the dandruff shampoo (Selsun Blue). I wash his hair a couple times a week with the shampoo, apply some baby oil to it afterwards, and comb the dry skin out. Might try to reverse the order (oil then shampoo) to see if that works better.
Jax above and Asher below
  • Pretty sure Asher is going to need a helmet like Mase did to fix the shape of his head. Stay tuned for confirmation (which we won't get until after his 4 month appointment and most likely a MFB appointment).
  • Asher still has his three birthmarks on his face and one on his lower back.
